Greek and Roman Mythology – the girl finally cried out in terror, saying, “Where are you taking me?” To which the bull replied in a deep, godly voice, urging her to be brave and daring. He said, “Look, I am Jupiter, driven by my love for you to take this form, and soon Crete will welcome us for our wedding: Crete, where I myself was born.” Mythology formed a stronghold for ancient humans against natural challenges, being their ancient scientific language and understanding. Through myths, humans fortified themselves against their fears and found shelter in the vast darkness of this universe. Today, when we contemplate myths rationally and with critical scientific thinking, we analyze them logically and rationally. However, we must not forget that the ancient human’s attachment to myths was a clinging to the authenticity of thought. Therefore, no civilization was devoid of myths. The Greek civilization, followed by the Roman one, was built on the foundation of mythology. Even the birth of Rome itself was mythical, and the descent of gods to earth was a myth. Everything at the beginning was surrounded by myths. When the Greek civilization collapsed under the weight of the Roman army, and Rome fell under the Germanic invasion, myths remained standing and did not lose their value. Instead, they continued to be passed down through generations and languages and became an integral part of cultural heritage. By Mohammed Badawi Mustafa.
